Join us on a Botanical Nature Walk to view the endangered and endemic Yreka Phlox!

Join Jennifer Silveira (retired USFWS botanist) and Laura Bradley (SLT Stewardship Manager) as we tour Siskiyou Land Trust’s China Hill Phlox Preserve. This property was specifically acquired to protect the endangered Yreka Phlox. We will be looking at wildflowers as well as birds on this short stroll so don’t forget your binoculars! Prepare to walk 1-2 miles along gravel roads on this trip.

This trip is limited to 25 participants.

Because of our amazing community of supporters we were able to launch a Nature Walk series in 2023! Our walks engaged hundreds of community members on trips that included birding, botany, butterflies, astronomy, mushrooms and more. These walks allow us to provide educational opportunities in a variety of ecologically interesting ways. They also allow us to share the mission of the Land Trust and show our supporters some of the diverse properties that Siskiyou Land Trust owns or holds conservation easements on.
Your dollars make a difference in our ability to host these walks as well as organize our slideshow series and rafting trips. Please consider a donation to SLT to help fund these types of community events and to continue supporting SLT’s protection of the land that we love here in Siskiyou County.

Meet SLT Stewardship Associate, Laura Bradley

Laura has spent many days in the field this spring monitoring our conservation easements and leading several trips for our Nature Walk series.

Laura is our staff ornithologist and wildlife biologist and led/co-led a number of nature walks and birding trips to various places around Siskiyou County. She also reached out to other experts in their fields who graciously volunteered to lead several botanical and ecology hikes to properties SLT owns or holds conservation easements on.

As summer approaches it’s now time to focus on report writing, organizing more nature walks, working on projects that can be done in the heat of summer and counting down the days until we can get back out in the field this fall for more easement monitoring.
