Perhaps you’ve stopped by the office and been greeted by a wagging tail or run into him on the boardwalks of Sisson Meadow- It’s Donkey Xote!
This brown and white conservation companion can be found at the side of his mom, Emily Williamson, exploring the rolling hills and rushing waters of Scott River Ranch, his SLT protected home outside of Etna, CA.
As a native of Scott Valley, Donkey is passionate about squirrel population management and the intersection of agricultural and wild lands. With permanently conserved ag land lining both sides of the backcountry roads of his commute to work (he keeps a hybrid work schedule), Donkey draws his joy from the open space and clean waters of the Scott River riparian corridor.
Donkey’s neighbor, landowner partner Hillary Plank Gentry, was this year’s first Giving Tuesday Contribution! And though we all got a laugh at her dedication, “Creating infrastructure for office pets to be more comfortable,” that won’t be where your Giving Tuesday support will land.
It will help protect the rural and working landscapes of Scott Valley. It will help conserve the land on either side of one of the state’s first wildlife crossings, soon to be protected forever by Siskiyou Land Trust. It will support the stewardship of Sisson Meadow and SLT’s Garden Greenway, many other local pups’ favorite spot for an evening stroll.
Happy Giving Tuesday from all of us at Siskiyou Land Trust. Thank you for supporting the permanent conservation of Siskiyou County and working to keep our little slice of Northern California a healthful place for our community and all our four-legged friends.
All your favorite local nonprofits are celebrating downtown this year! Make sure you stop by Redwood Gallery to join us in toasting to the Giving Season.
