John Whitson joined the Siskiyou Land Trust Board in October 2021, and agreed immediately to put his extensive financial experience to use by accepting the role of Treasurer.

John has loved fly fishing, hiking and cross country skiing the mountains and rivers of Siskiyou County for as long as he can remember, beginning with many fishing trips to Dunsmuir with his Father in the 1970s, and running through annual winter ski vacations in Mount Shasta throughout most of his adult life.  John and his wife Wendy soon began dreaming of living here full time, and they were thrilled when they were able to realize that dream by moving to Mount Shasta early in 2020.

Joining the SLT board as Treasurer and helping preserve the mountains and rivers that he loves is a natural progression for John.

John brings a broad and deep financial background to his role as Treasurer.  John earned a degree in Managerial Economics from U.C. Davis, and worked in corporate banking for 8 years before beginning a 24-year career in various financial leadership positions in the wine industry.  His areas of expertise include financial planning, strategic planning, cash flow management, and financial analysis.

John has long been interested in environmental issues and is excited to contribute his financial skills and knowledge to the Siskiyou Land Trust, helping SLT continue to achieve its mission of preserving key wildlands, watersheds, and open spaces throughout Siskiyou County.
