Near the end of June, Debby and Jim Parker spotted a grasshopper sparrow on Scott River Ranch, a Siskiyou Land Trust protected, working cattle ranch in Etna, CA.
The grasshopper sparrow, a rare species of bird known for its insect-like, buzzing call, has not been recorded in Siskiyou County in over 10 years.
Protecting habitat for rare species is just one of the ecosystem services an Agricultural Conservation Easement can provide. What an exciting intersection of agriculture and biodiversity, captured here by Gretchen Framel.
Summer is in full swing and that means there is plenty to do on the land. Help keep invasive species out of the places you love, promote native plant growth, and connect with local conservation-minded folks.

CA Climate Action Corps is now accepting applications for the 11-month fellowship starting this fall. Fellows will lead climate action and volunteer engagement projects in our beloved Siskiyou County.
Selected fellows serve 1700+ hours and learn hands-on experience in climate solutions while being part of a statewide network of emerging leaders. California Climate Action Corps fellows earn up to $45,000 in living stipends and money for school to pay educational expenses or repay qualified student loans.
We can’t believe our time with last year’s “Action Gals” is coming to an end, but we can’t wait to welcome the next group of Fellows to Siskiyou Land Trust.
