Come and be a part of this important Citizen Science event! \nJayme Castro\, founder of the Mt. Shasta Mycological Society\, will be our guide. We will be spending the day hiking and documenting as many mushroom species as we can using the iNaturalist App*. \n\nA BioBlitz is a community science event where people of all experience levels team up to record as many species as possible in a short time.\nYour observations help build a record of local fungal diversity and support conservation efforts for this unique habitat.\nUsing iNaturalist\, your photos become part of a global database used by scientists and land stewards.\nIt’s a fun way to learn\, share discoveries\, and connect with others who love mushrooms and nature.\nBring your smartphone with the iNaturalist app*\, and if you’d like to collect specimens\, a small knife\, basket\, tackle box\, or wax paper are helpful for keeping mushrooms separated and protected.\nSome collections may even be selected later for DNA sequencing to help identify rare or unknown species — a great way to contribute to fungal research!\n\nRegistration is required. SLT Stewardship Manager\, Laura Bradley\, and Habitat Restoration Biologist\, Jennifer Silveira\, will lead this tour of Siskiyou Land Trust’s China Hill Phlox Preserve. This property was specifically acquired to protect the endangered Yreka Phlox. We will be looking at wildflowers as well as birds on this short stroll\, so don’t forget your binoculars! \n\n\n\nPlan on walking 1.5 – 2.0 miles on loose gravel roads with approximately 200 feet of total elevation gain. \n\n\n\nRegistration is required for this free event.
