DESCRIPTION:Photo of Pluto Cave taken by Bubba Seuss. \nJoin Siskiyou Land Trust and lifelong caver and researcher Mike Spiess\, on a journey to explore Pluto Cave in the Shasta Valley! We’ll learn about the geology of the Cascade Arc\, how lava tubes are formed and the features of the Shasta Valley. We’ll enjoy the flora along the short ¼ mile hike to the cave and then venture into Pluto Cave up to complete darkness (about ¼ of a mile). DESCRIPTION:DATE CHANGED TO THURSDAY\, OCTOBER 30 DUE TO WEATHER… Join Siskiyou Land Trust and local mycologist\, Jayme Castro\, on our first MUSHROOM BIOBLITZ at Luginbuhl Headwaters Preserve. Come and be a part of this important Citizen Science event! \nJayme Castro\, founder of the Mt. Shasta Mycological Society\, will be our guide. We will be spending the day hiking and documenting as many mushroom species as we can using the iNaturalist App*. \n\nA BioBlitz is a community science event where people of all experience levels team up to record as many species as possible in a short time.\nYour observations help build a record of local fungal diversity and support conservation efforts for this unique habitat.\nUsing iNaturalist\, your photos become part of a global database used by scientists and land stewards.\nIt’s a fun way to learn\, share discoveries\, and connect with others who love mushrooms and nature.\nBring your smartphone with the iNaturalist app*\, and if you’d like to collect specimens\, a small knife\, basket\, tackle box\, or wax paper are helpful for keeping mushrooms separated and protected.\nSome collections may even be selected later for DNA sequencing to help identify rare or unknown species — a great way to contribute to fungal research!\n\nRegistration is required.
