The Siskiyou Land Trust works with willing landowners to help conserve natural, agricultural and scenic values of Siskiyou County land and resources.

Local land trusts, organized as charitable organizations under federal tax laws, are involved in conserving land for its natural, recreational, scenic, historical and productive values. Land trusts can purchase land for permanent protection, or they may use one of several other methods: accept donations of land or the funds to purchase land, accept a bequest, or accept the donation of a conservation easement, which permanently limits the type and scope of development that can take place on the land. In some instances, land trusts also purchase conservation easements.

For more information about this, see the national Land Trust Alliance website’s Frequently Asked Questions page: http://www.lta.org/faq

Why does Siskiyou County need land and resource conservation?

It's simple. Siskiyou County is still relatively undeveloped...in fact, it's one of the last rural frontiers of great natural beauty and resources remaining in California. As population pressure inevitably increases, however, agricultural and forestry lands, spectacular views, water and air resources and wildlife habitat will be compromised since local and county planning ordinances do little to protect them at this time.

We believe that development in Siskiyou County can and should occur without sacrificing the very values that attract growth in the first place...including the outstanding scenic beauty, clean water and air, healthy forests, rural farms, ag land, and other resources and qualities that have historically defined this area.
